How does the fed gov't decide how much vaccine to send us?

Through a formula that unfairly shortchanges NYC.

We get no extra allocation to cover the huge # of people from outside the city we are vaccinating.

This exacerbates the shortage for the millions here who need it. 1/
NYC is rapidly running through its stock of doses. Going forward we'll only be able administer as many as we receive each week from the feds.

We've been receiving only about 100k/week. This is way too few. We have over 2M now eligible who haven't yet received their 1st shot. 2/
The feds apportion doses based on population. But NYC has a huge # of healthcare and other essential workers who commute here from outside of the city.

They have a right to be vaccinated here--as they should!!--but the feds give us no extra doses for this. 3/
Now that everyone 65+ is eligible, there are also 1000s of people who don't live in NYC nor are essential workers here who are nonetheless making appts (and getting the vaccine) at city sites.

This is technically legal. But again--we get no extra doses for this from the feds. 4/
Bottom line: the federal gov't needs to increase the national supply of vaccine. They also need to allocate it fairly. That means giving NYC doses to cover all the people from other places we are vaccinating. 5/5
