AOC is right that we need a corrective for the MSM. To be sure, her idea is simply to muzzle anyone who disagrees with her but the bottom line is that we can’t survive as a free people if the MSM is free to lie without consequences. Something has to be done.

Without prejudging any ideas, I think that libel law reform is the way to go. We need to provide a low-cost method where those slandered in the MSM can force the MSM to either prove the allegation or pay vast sums to the slandered.

For anyone thinks this will chill debate: bullsh**. It just means everyone will have to be careful about what they publish. If you aren’t sure it’s true, you shouldn’t be saying it under any circumstances, anyway. The 1A isn’t there to protect the ability to lie.

As for what’s a lie? Well, that’s where a jury comes in. We either believe our peers can come to reasonable decisions about such things or we might as well scrap self government and turn ourselves over to the best Emperor we can find.

No one gives his or her life to make sure lies can go viral on the internet. We need to start being a bit sensible about how we conduct public business.
