hm. no, the cops are always bad, and if they are making you/yours feel safe in some instance, it’s bc you/yours are the ones who will benefit from violence done to others. if that makes you feel bad, welcome to structural sin: worse than individual sin because you can’t fix it.
white progressives love “structural sin” because we use it to mean “things are bad, but amidst them, *I* can be good,” when it means that actually you’re always implicated in what’s bad. if it were not for Christ it would be entirely crushing.
“well Bailey what do U recommend for churches being threatened by rightwing whatevers” totally nebulous apparently targetless threats? dial it back.
credible threats to you specifically? meet elsewhere and do immediate, careful congregational discernment on response to violence.
if what you’re doing makes you a target for violence, the whole congregation needs to meet and talk about it, because there will need to be shared buy-in to the response and people who cannot buy in will need to be given the opportunity to leave.
not to put too fine a point on it but there are many grassroots organizations that have been recipients of violence, sometimes by the state. there’s wisdom to be found.
