You know what, let's watch some Nets/Magic. For no particular reason at all. None.
*whispers* this is the big 3 right?
I'm going to get this out of the way and say it would be *extremely* on brand for both Steve Clifford and the Orlando Magic to just completely throw a wrench into this game.
First play addressing Harden off ball. Split between Harden/KD. Post for Jordan and a post split with KD screening for Harden. All of the attention is there and notice the play is for Joe Harris. Fakes a screen and slips for a layup.
Remember the Nets have a great flow, multiple actions, side to side. Harden comes off a screen from Green as Harris is coming off a backpick from Jordan. That's tough. Defense has to rotate, extra passes lead to an open look.
Made a point on the pod, but you can run an action with any of the big 3 and have to deal with one of them on the weakside. Pistol with Harden. Magic keep it on the side, weakside helps on Jordan's roll. Kick to KD for 3.
Defense is going to be interesting for Nets. You see the switches from the Nets, keeps them solid and in place. Vucevic has a post up, Harden able to get a hand and deflect. I want to see what they do when they have to rotate.
Mentioned Joe Harris on the pod and...yeah...he's going to benefit *big time*. Defense has to make choices and one of them is helping off of Harris and...yeah.
Nikola Vucevic is really good and doesn't get enough credit. I said it.
Harden comes off the P&R with Jordan. Vucevic in a drop, weakside showing help. Notice the weakside is KD and Joe Harris. Good relocate by Harris but again weakside defense are going to have some tough decisions to make if they can't switch.
Again just want to point out the decisions you have to make on the weakside. Harden in an ISO. As he drives defense has to help. Weakside holds on Jordan at the rim. Skip to KD and the rotation begins. Skip to Harris ends up in a 3.
Nets going to have to handle cross matches with their lineups. Shamet ends up on Birch in transition. Good job of just sealing him early and finishing.
Defending the 2nd action going to be tough vs. Nets. Magic do a great job guarding the pindown for Shamet. The reward is having to defend KD coming off in P&R. Vucevic is up but trap before KD even dribbles. Jordan able to slip, Ross holds (no overhelp) but Shamet relocates for 3
If Nets are going to keep switching, communication will be key. Birch screens for Anthony here, KD/Brown involved. KD switches, Brown chases which leaves Birch open on the roll. Good job reading it by Anthony, weakside not in. Something to watch.
Another thing for the Nets, being able to stagger those guys going to be tougher than has been talked about.
It's the multiple efforts that the Nets will need on defense. Things are solid until pressure is put on. Good defense until 10 on the clock. Birch screens, Nets active, weakside pulls in to help on roll. Kick to Gordon who drives and forces more help, Magic get an open 3.
