Jason Nixon's reassurances are not credible. Look at the evidence, Albertans, and not at the pretty words. First, Alberta does not have a "robust" environmental regulatory system. Is there one environmental lawyer in Canada who would agree with this? 1/n #abpoli
One conservation biologist? One landscape ecologist? One conservation association? One environmental policy expert? One authority on the ecology of the eastern slopes? 2/n @Ablawg @ABWilderness @cpaws
Do you want to ask some of the landowners who have abandoned well sites on their properties? Indigenous communities living downstream of the oilsands? Or maybe have a look at the Cheviot mine site? 3/n
Or you could read some of the published research on environmental regulation in Alberta. At lot of this research is summarized in these books:

Jason Nixon is telling us that he cares about protecting the eastern slopes while he and the energy minister are handing out coal leases left and right. 6/n #ClearwaterCounty #Nordegg #GoldenEyeLake #FishLake #CrescentFalls @MrFels

For example, this agreement with Oros Coal dated December 1, 2020, which will impact the Big Horn Indian Reserve:
Or this one, that will engulf Fish Lake and Goldeneye Lake:
Jason Nixon has already bulldozed right over the provisions of the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan and the Alberta Land Stewardship Act and rescinded the 1976 Coal Policy without public consultation.
This is why the Kenney government is facing multiple judicial reviews of these actions. Why do you think, Albertans, that they have done these things without public consultation??
And who was it who opposed the creation of a provincial park in the Big Horn area?
And who is it who is auctioning oil and gas leases in the province's "natural areas"?
Jason Nixon is "reassuring" Albertans not to worry--UCP won't sell their eastern slopes to the highest bidder--because two much-loved country singers have come out against the UCP's plans to permit coal mining, and he is worried that Albertans might actually pay attention.
I assure you, if he could identify an environmental organization as the voice in the wilderness, and discredit its concerns as "anti-Albertan," that's what he would be doing now.
Unfortunately for Jason Nixon, a citizens' group rooted in the southwest of the province, with over 7,000 members, plus thousands more Albertans, are on to the UCP and are not going to let the mining of the eastern slopes happen. #WaterNotCoal
I could throw a lump of coal a lot further than I trust Jason Nixon, Sonya Savage, or Jason Kenney to protect the interests of Albertans. #StopTheBengaMine #MountainsNotMines
