Seattle voted in the $15 minimum wage and none of the fear-mongering came true. Restaurants didn’t close. Fast food stayed cheap. Socialists didn’t invade. Economy is fine. Ultra-wealthy business owners were forced to stop using food stamp subsidies as a business model, though.
Washington State already had one of the highest minimum wage laws in the nation.
Passed by referendum in 1998 because we are not heartless mofos like the rest of you.

Georgia’s minimum wage is
$5.15 (subject to the $7.25 Federal minimum).
Nineteen states likewise have minimum wages of $7.25 or less.
40 hours a week. 52 weeks. $15,080 a year.
(That has to be a heinous affront to God, if God were real.)

There are ways to mitigate minimum wage laws.
1) Phase-in (3 years gradual rise)
2) Some exemption for high school students (who already have strict protections in place)
3) Economic growth
There’s a lot of research and cities/states that have gone this route provide data.

There is some impact. But overall it’s pretty clear wages went up without Karl Marx arriving on a red unicorn to destroy raw oyster bars.

Oh—and while I’m throwing around hot online takes fresh as Pike Place market salmon:
RAISE THE EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT (EITC).
It is the “single most effective means tested federal antipoverty program for working-age households” you big dummies.

We can’t solve the American political cytokine storm with aspirin.
Democrats, you have the ball. Full-court press the next two years! Hard. A New New Deal.
We need renewal and aid, now. Win the hearts and minds of this nation with sober dignity and moral courage.

America is in ICU. Don’t overthink things.
Violence is a vital-signs-monitor screeching. Quickly pass bills for healthcare, minimum wage, debt relief, jobs, WPA-style programs, rural aid, education-boosting programs, help for the most vulnerable. Fix alienation, the root cause.

America, you grow up and start acting like a modern nation with shared public safety nets for all.
We [caustic ironic voice] SOMEHOW found a way to give billionaires $3-6 trillion in 2017.
Fix this inequality, or we risk seeing our democratic norms degrade even further.

Hey—you know what’s Orwellian?
“Socialism” as a scapegoat, a trigger moral disgust word. A lie invoked endlessly, to control the populace through fear.
“... Emmanuel Goldstein, a mysterious but supposedly powerful enemy who is blamed for everything.” https://twitter.com/impolitics/status/1349536729804333057?s=21

My family escaped from East Germany, but some did not make it out from behind the Iron Curtain alive.
MUTUALITY—minimum wage laws, Twitter bans, COVID relief, metal detectors, sewers, food safety laws, Costco buying club memberships—is not socialism, you silly hypochondriacs.

Let’s try new things.
This guy from around here in Seattle, who looks like Jesus?
He [caustic ironic voice] ACTUALLY applied his faith principles to economics and made everyone happier.
We should try that, too, America. Go get ‘em, Joe Biden. https://www.inc.com/magazine/201511/paul-keegan/does-more-pay-mean-more-growth.html

Take it from a lifelong Republican who voted in the Republican primary (wrote-in @DavidAFrench)—they’re lying to us.
If we can afford to subsidize gagillionaires with $3 TRILLION IN TAX CUTS, understand that a higher minimum wage and the Biden New New Deal is a holy imperative.

One more good article, this from @Noahpinion. Every American should read this.
“...the percent of economists who think minimum wage is a substantial job-killer went from an overwhelming majority in the late 70s to a modest minority by the mid 2010s.” https://noahpinion.substack.com/p/why-15-minimum-wage-is-pretty-safe
