Keep seeing tweets blaming a poor education system for the behavior of Trump supporters. Claiming they believe conspiracies bc they didn’t take a history or civics class is just wrong. It’s not a matter of “smart” or “dumb.” It’s poor media literacy. Period. This is my hot take
Countless people with college degrees are falling for conspiracies. Even on the left. The sooner this country hones in on improving poor media literacy as opposed to just “being smarter”, the easier it’ll be to help people and prevent something like 1/6 from happening again
(I do know that modern media literacy is being taught to the *next* generation in schools as a requirement, which is great!) (I think it should be taught every year instead of what I had, which was just: “a section of 4th grade ‘library’ class that lasted 3 months”)
