Frank James Lampard | Mr. Chelsea | A Career thread
Frank Lampard was born in Romford, London on the 20th of june, 1978. The young Englishman joined the West ham academy. The club his father, Frank Lampard Sr., made 500 appearances for ; making a legacy for himself at west ham United
He emerged from the West Ham academy alongside other future stars like Rio Ferdinand.
He made his hammers' debut as a 16 year old on 31 January 1996 against Coventry City coming on as an 81st minute sub for John Moncur. The game would eventually end 3-2 as a win for West Ham. He'd go on to make one more appearance.
Frank Lampard's relationship with the West Ham fans wasn't great. He wasn't rated by the fans at all which led to them accusing then manager Harry Redknapp of favouritism towards his relative. Redknapp fired back with one of the most infamous interviews in football history 👇

With his feet on the ground and the manager by his side Lampard would go on to make a solid career for himself at west ham. He'd played 19 games for England u21s scoring 9 goals in the process, A tally only bettered by Francis Jeffers and Alan Shearer
On the 19th of October 1999 a 21 year old Frank Lampard earned his first cap for the England senior team. He would go on to have a very successful international career.
After 5 years, 148 appearances and 24 goals at West Ham (aswell as a brief loan spell at Swansea) It was time for the biggest step up in Lampard's career
In june of 2001, a young Frank Lampard moved from West ham to Chelsea for £11 million. A move that would prove to be the start of an incredible story between Chelsea and the Chelsea man
Lampard's Premier League debut with Chelsea came on 19 August 2001 in a 1–1 draw with Newcastle United. He would go on to appear in all of Chelsea's league matches in the 2001–02 season scoring 8 goals in the process
The 03/04 season is where Lampard really began kicking into gear. He won the PL POTM award for September and the PFA fans POTM for October. Chelsea would go on to finish 2nd in the league behind the invincibles.
He would go on to score double digits in PL goals for the first time in his career as he made it into the PFA TOTY. In addition, he also scored 4 goals in 14 UCL games as Chelsea reached the semi-final losing to Monaco. He came second in FWA player of the year. Only behind Henry
Then came the 04/05 season.

Important would be an understatement when describing lampard's contribution to that incredible season.

He won the club's golden boot with 13 league goals as well as playing every single game helping his club to a league and cup double
Under Jose Mourinho Chelsea collected 95 points. A record then. They also won 15 on the road, conceded just 9 on the road, kept 25 CS, conceded just 15 and only conceded 9 from open play. All of these are league records that are still standing today. A truly outstanding season
Then came the 2005/06 season. While not as impressive as 04/05 in terms of team achievements. It was an improvement for Lampard as his stats improved even further
He scored 16 goals in the league (20 in all comps) his highest league tally aswell as laying on 9 assists (13 in all comps) meaning he averaged 2 goal contributions every 3 games. Truly remarkable stuff for a central midfielder.
The 06/07 season followed which was quite special for Lampard as he captained his club for the majority of the season. He enjoyed another amazing individual season beating his previous seasons tally with 21 goals in all comps
Then came the 07/08 season which was by far lampard's most unfortunate season. He was struck down by injuries making the fewest number of appearances in one season for him since the 96-97 season
Though he scored his 100th goal for chelsea his misfortune seemed to continue and on the 24th of April 2008 lampard heard the news of his mother's passing 1 week before playing the 2nd leg of the champions league SF against Liverpool
He ended up confidently slotting home a penalty in extra time which ultimately decided the game. Then came the 2008 UCL final. To cap off an unfortunate year for Lampard he scored a goal in the UCL final. A match his team would unfortunately go on to lose on penalties
Lamps enjoyed incredible statistical and personal success from 2008 to 2010 winning his 3rd potm trophy, scoring his 150th goal and making his 400th chelsea appearance all within that time. his 08/09 was remarkable scoring 20 goals and grabbing 21 assists in 57 games.

Remarkable
Then the 09/10 season. Considered one of the best individual seasons in premier league history. In that season Frank scored 22 and assisted a further 16 in the league in just 36 games averaging over a goal or assist per game.

Best goalscoring midfielder this world's ever seen
The 10/11 season was another poor one for frank as he was hampered by injuries as he was out for four months. While not a remarkable one by his standards he still managed 19 goals and assists in 32 games across all comps.

World class even on his bad seasons
Then came the famous 11/12 season. Lampard's first (but not last) taste of European silverware. While Chelsea went through a particularly poor league campaign under AVB eventually finishing 5th in the prem. all that would be forgotten through the events leading up to Munich 2012
A comeback against Napoli in the ro16 would prove to be the first hurdle this Chelsea team face with lampard scoring a penalty in the home tie amidst a 4-1 win. 2 wins against Benfica settled the QFs then Chelsea found themselves up against European rivals Barcelona in the semis
A controversial fixture whenever its played, this one was no different and with memories of what happened in 2011 the blues were out for blood. A dominant first leg by barca eventually ended with Chelsea stealing a win post a Didier Drogba first half goal and a Cečh masterclass
Then came the infamous second leg. With busquets equalising for barca on aggregate early on, more controversy followed as John Terry was given a very harsh Red Card for a foul on Sanchez. All hope looked lost for the 10 man blues when Iniesta gave Barca the lead
With even bigger responsibility the blues had to show heart. Then-Captain Frank Lampard played Ramires through who runs onto the pass and dinks Valdes. a goal like no other. All of a sudden and against the run of play it was advantage chels.
Messi then missed a penalty and with it a chance to put Barca through goes begging. A world class defensive performance by us follows until somehow Fernando Torres finds himself through on goal with Valdes. He rounds him and calmly slots it home to put the tie to bed late on.
Chelsea were in the champions league final. A stage they hadn't reached 2008 and the blues didn't want a repeat of what happened back then. They had a problem ahead though. At the time of the fixture announcement Chelsea had 0 CBs available for the game.
The date was May 19, 2012. Chelsea vs Bayern Munich in the Allianz arena, Bayern's home stadium. Bayern's winning machine vs Chelsea's weakend lineup. A last chance at Europe's premier competition for Chelsea's golden generation.
Bayern dominated from the off. They had chance after chance. Petr Cečh had another heroic performance. Bayern had 20 shots compared to Chelsea's 6 aswell as 20 corners (yep you read that right) The game had 40 fouls in total, 26 of which were committed by a blue. Utter domination
The blues, captained by Frank Lampard, managed to pull through the battle surviving almost every blow Bayern dealt. That was until the 83rd minute when Müller found the back of the net. 4 minutes later, Chelsea were awarded a corner. Mata's corner (was met by) DROGBAAAAA. Its 1-1
Then extra time followed and Bayern continued their usual domination. Chelsea still defended admirably. That was until the 5th minute of ET when Chelsea's hero a few minutes earlier, Drogba, gave away a penalty. Robben steps up, shoots then Chelsea's real hero, Petr Cech saves
The game would eventually go to pens. Chelsea's two heroes win it for us.
Two commentary lines, "and Cečh saves" and "he's done it" which are enough to make any Chelsea fan tear up in happiness. Truly incredible
Obviously no statistical backing needs to be made after that fairytale but to go back to frank. he was the club's top goalscorer with 16 goals and 10 assists in all comps.
The 12/13 season was somewhat special for Lampard as he became the club's record goalscorer as well as captaining his side to another European triumph this time in the Europa League beating Benfica in the final on the 15th of May, 2013
He had short and controversial spells with Man city and NYCFC which I won't get into. He most memorably scored against his former club during that time
to summarise the career of a legend:

-179 assists
