That’s a way oversimplified view of what I said.

#USC’s ceiling is severely limited by their inability to run the ball successfully. Full stop.

My point is SC’s offensive efficiency would be much improved by running less often, bc they’re so outrageously inefficient at it. https://twitter.com/ralphjmoran/status/1350513264828928002
#USC was 105th in opportunity rate and 108th in power success rate. A whopping 21.2% of rush attempts went for no gain or lost yardages.

That’s horrendous. They’d be better off substituting the run with screens, swing passes, etc. because those don’t have such a high fail rate.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence Graham Harrell’s offense peaked in November 2019, when Stepp, Carr and Malepaei were hurt. They had to focus on being an air raid team and were true to their identity. No running to run. Fewer inefficient plays.
And as I said on the podcast, that late 2019 boom came *after* the book was out on how to beat them. BYU and UW’s tactics on film didn’t stop SC from being explosive vs. Cal, Iowa etc.

So clearly, there’s an extra gear SC wasn’t hitting in 2020.
This isn’t all an effort to say I believe #USC wins a nat’l title with this offense (I don’t think that) or that running is pointless (quite the opposite, see: Oklahoma 😍).

But doing something you’re bad at, just because others are good at it, isn’t wise. Stick to the identity.
