idk if I’ve listened to too much @yourewrongabout but now I can’t stop thinking about moral panics in the dance world.
For example, the constant discourse around competition dance, especially in college dance settings. Dancers only caring about extensions because of Instagram. Or the “in my day, we knew dance history!” There’s a lot out there.
It’s not that these issues shouldn’t be talked about. It’s that morality is applied to them and the blame is put on the dancers.
Maybe we aren’t interested in dance history because dance history books are white washed and marginalized people are left out of our history.
We have a lot of things that need this urgency, this panic. Fatphobia, racism, transphobia, homophobia, and ableism are rampant and alienating and harming dancers every day.
