Yes, some of our Ancestors did love work out of jealousy and loneliness; HOWEVER, let’s talk about the PRACTICALITIES... You know “Papa was a rolling stone... n when he died all he left them was alone”... that’s why.
At the intersection of men of African Decent were migrant workers or rolling stones, and women BEING LEGALLY FORBIDDEN TO WORK... if that man didn’t come home or ended up having children with another woman it LITERALLY took food out their kids mouths & clothes off their backs.
At one point in history women had no choice but to “keep a man” because she couldn’t survive any other way. How TF you gonna live if the law forbids paid labor?

The goal was NOT to bind a broken, broke, resourceless man to her bed out of loneliness & y’all not gonna perpetuate that nonsense on our Ancestors while I’m around.

The “fight for a man” between two women with some common sense, was about resources, survival, not mediocre dick to soothe a broken heart. Not “ah haaa I got your man.”... and not “I can’t live without him b/c I haven’t healed my traumas.”
There was no “take him to court for child support.” ... there was no “adoption”... no “safe pregnancy terminations”, no WIC, no none of that. If there was not a man in your house paying bills the struggle was unlike anything many of us could imagine.
The Abuse that some of our foremothers had to endure for the survival of themselves and their children due to literally NO other options is not to be taken lightly. It’s extremely disrespectful to insinuate that they ALL bound men to them simply because they could.
To even justify doing that shit in 2021 just because you saw it in a book written by someone who did absolutely no research on the topic and it’s political and economic implications for THAT TIME PERIOD, and then says some simpleton shit like “Love magic is as old as time.”
TRASH... BASURA. There is absolutely NO reason in 2021 to be tryna bind someone to you, do “love work” on someone, or trap them into “staying” with you. Like I said, there were absolutely some folks who misused the practice... but let’s be clear on the practical intentions.
It’s a literal delusion to believe that the root intention of this type of work was that our Ancestors want us wasting Ase, time, and money, chasing after ppl who don’t want us and for some are ACTIVELY trying to keep us from.
You think your Great Great Granny wants you binding yourself to a man that doesn’t even RESPECT you.. he doesn’t even concern himself with whether or not you’re breathing... but she wants you to “love work” on him to keep y’all together?! I think TF not.
She wants you to do that love work on yourself so you can stop feeling like having someone on top of you makes you “worthy”.
