As someone who made $11/hr and got bumped up to $15/hr, I can tell you from experience that it is life changing money. Dylan and I would have to account for every single dollar we spent. One time, I accidentally cut my finger and needed stitches, and started panicking not from
Half of my finger being cut off, but from how much it would cost to get stitches. Luckily, his parents were able to send us the money to cover the bill.

There was one month that we literally only ate pinto beans and cornbread because we needed to make sure rent could come
Out of our account the next month. I worked multiple jobs and Dylan was a full time student working a part time job just so we could make ends meet each month because my main job only paid $11/hr.

Now that I make $15/hr, we have an emergency savings account. We buy groceries
That don’t always come in a can. We can actually afford the new mattress that we’ve been needing.

We still have to budget pretty hard to make it work, and we are carless because we can’t afford a new car, BUT if I get let go or one of us has to get stitches again, we can
Afford it without worrying if rent will be covered next month.

Everyone deserves housing, food, and health insurance. If an employer can’t pay its employees enough to live, then it’s paying a CEO too much money or it’s not a good business.
