yesterday I was lucky enough to receive the first dose of my covid Vaccine. I have a lot of complicated feelings about it - but not because it's a vaccine, but because of the privilege it was to receive it. A 🧵
Overall, my state has handled teachers receiving vaccine's fairly well - especially once @GovCox took office, when timelines and things changed.

However receiving the vaccine was also a way to coerce teachers back in to the classroom - specifically one district
And while it does provide teachers, who most of us have been f2f since August - with a shield to protect us. It does NOT protect our student population.

And so it feels a little like healthcare theater. The high-schoolers will continue to spread it.

And take it home.
Now, with the new, more contagious, variant in Utah - this is a concern. Cloth masks will not protect the student population like it has been. The students will be MORE likely to get the virus in the coming months.

And sure...teachers are protected..but students aren't.
AND, neither are their families.

So, I am incredibly grateful, and incredibly privileged to have received the vaccine. But...all this does is give the state reasons to REMOVE restrictions, when @GovCox should be INCREASING restrictions for our students and their families.
Also, if you're curious. My arm hurts worse than a tetanus shot and I had some chills and a fever of 102. That was yesterday - today my arm hurts, but my symptoms are gone.

I get my second dose in February.
