Said it before, saying it again: The anti-choice movement was the vanguard of American fascism. https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/1350480669353385986
Not surprising that the same people who believe women shouldn't have a say in when they give birth also don't think Black people should have a say in our democracy.
Anti-choice men often have this strong incel energy. They're just so angry at women for choosing....not them. So outraged that women have sex and it doesn't involve them.
So much so that when I see a male anti-choice activist has a female partner, I can't help but wonder if it bugs her, how much time and energy he spends fulminating about the sex lives of other women.
Wish I could say I'm surprised by all the men who want to erase this a little, by redefining what I mean, or insisting that I'm overlooking something. So much desire to believe women aren't important enough to oppress, which is, of course, its own sexism.
But, as recent events show, there's a real danger in minimizing misogyny. It's been well-documented that the entrance point to fascism and white nationalism is often misogyny. Men join communities that hate women and are gradually eased into being vicious racists.
Trump's initial appeal was misogynist. A lot of his fanboys were enraptured by ability to sexually assault without consequence. White nationalists deliberately target misogynist forums, correctly assuming that one bigotry opens them up to many others.
The Proud Boys is an obvious example of this pipeline. Their initial pitch is that men are "emasculated" by feminism and that they can help men restore this fantasy version of the past where women loved to be submissive.
Once in, that's when they start getting hit with pitches about how feminism is part of a larger assault on "Western civilization," pretty clear-cut code for white nationalism. White supremacy and male supremacy are treated as intertwined.
Trumpism, like every fascism before it, is a racist movement and a sexist movement. It's always about remaking society into this strict hierarchy, and "kinder küche kirche" is always central to it.
This is why so many of us were raising the alarm about Jordan Peterson. He’s a classic pipeliner — attract young men with sexist fantasies about ruling over women, and then telling them a story about how “globalists” and “Marxists” are why women are so uppity.
