Reaction to the latest SI article on the Texans and Easterby:
Easterby deserves all the criticism in the world for how bad he has been/how bad things have gone since he got here. Cal taking blame can be looked at as protecting him, but Cal does deserve the blame. Easterby should have never been on the personnel side, BOB power was a joke.
However, it’s clear there are disgruntled people looking for blood, willing to talk w/ few direct quotes. A lot of “close to situation” sourcing, which is legit journalistically, but should be taken w/grain of salt. There are also denials from Easterby on many of the claims.
Easterby is never going to be liked in this city, just not going to happen and a lot of this is his own doing. If perception bothers him then he’s going to have to get thicker skin. Hell, even do interviews and just go about your business. Maybe even a Jerry Jones-like mindset.
The Watson stuff we knew and this appears to be more about leverage/accountability. The Watson camp will talk to hold Cal accountable when he’s messy because they don’t want a career wasted. It’s a needed & productive power play because Cal, a young owner, needs to tighten it up.
I don’t care if Cal didn’t listen to Korn Ferry. I never really understood the point of them anyways. Also, if you pay for a resource, but lean in a different direction, who cares? You still paid and got the info. Side note: Also it says Caserio had been recommended since 2017.
Questioning the merit of Caserio as a GM is silly. He has arguably the best Resume of anyone and deserves the opportunity. He might be guilty by association, but he’s more than qualified. If he’s in charge of personnel he has his work cut out, but he has earned the opportunity.
