You want to know why besides the obvious that fast-food, retail workers and others many deem ‘low-skilled’ deserve a living wage? Because some of those people really like those jobs.
I know it seems beyond comprehension to some, but a career isn’t the end-all/be-all to some folks. Some people want to do a job and go home. Some really love customer service. Some love the pace.
Ambition isn’t everything to everyone either. Some people want to make a good go where they are. They don’t want to be a captain of industry or have their name in lights. They want to ascend at their own pace.
The supermarket I worked in had a Union. The benefits weren’t bad either. A lady who trained me had been there for years & had a great life. She wasn’t on minimum wage as she accelerated through the company. She was happy.
Now for so many people #onhere, they can’t conceive of that kind thing. That someone who is in a “low-skilled” job could be so happy. But Miss Ruth isn’t on here making threads about her miserable life in a corporate job.
People. Deserve. A. Living. Wage. I don’t care if they are a valet or the Vice-President.
