we're going through the election time here in Portugal. recently, a politician named André Ventura has been growing and gaining fame here. he is known for being xenophobe, racist and homophobic.

he is the face of the political group named “chega!” (which u could translate to “enough!”). right now he's applying to be president of our country, here's some of his promises/ideas:

- he's dividing the country in two types of people, the bad and the pure portugueses. by that he means, people who are purely portuguese (which is rare since we have a lot of ppl of mixed nationalities everywhere). we've always been a warming country, he's destroying that

he wants the government to only support pure portugueses, leaving behind everyone that doesn't fit in that criteria.

- he wants to decriminalize sexual abuse of MINORS between 14 and 18 years old. this is absurd. he wants to LEGALIZE abuse if the victim is between 14-18 yrs old

- he wants to criminalize ABORTION and euthanasia. we're losing everything we accomplished.

- he wants to end the LGBT+ agenda and forbid schools from teaching about Islam.

- he wants to privatize schools, by that they will no longer be public and free access to everyone.

- he wants the state to no longer promote gay marriage and adoption by homosexual couples.

- he wants to apply border control, “giving police forces material and human resources to effectively control borders.” this would make it 10x harder for immigrants to find help here

- he wants to abolish the post of “prime minister.” this is dangerous, because if he does it, he'll get more power on the decisions made. we've always had a prime minister, why the fuck would we change that?

- he wants to abolish SNS. this is the portuguese national health system. it's what gives everyone the right to health no matter the gender, money or race. he wants that gone.

- he wants the establishment of a full presidential regimen (explained in the next tweet)

on April 25th, 1974, portugal made a pacific revolution to have our rights and freedom back after YEARS of a dictatorship. we fought for all the rights we have nowadays, the older ppl in our families gave their lives so we can have what we do today +

if he gets the full presidential power, he'll have almost no one to stop him from doing what he wants.

i know there's a chance he won't win the elections, but even my DAD is voting for him. please, even if you're from somewhere else, sign the petition. we can't let him do this

never too late to add that he said he'll sue or control people on portuguese twitter, he keeps threatening us like we're supposed to be afraid of him. he wants to make us go into a dictatorship AGAIN

according to another source, he also wants to take portugal out of the ONU (United Nations), which has helped millions of people when it comes to human rights. we have a portuguese man called Antonio Guterres who is the secretary-general of the United Nations. why would we leave?
