Saturday jan 16: woke up, prayed, walked dog, greeted military and police protecting neighborhood; breakfast, confessions...
Replaced sanitizer and cleaning rags around church to maintain covid protocols
“Blew out” the boiler so it won’t silt up w sediment and break (process needs to happen at least every other day, usually by a full time plant manager, here it’s little old me)
Altar needed some extra cleaning after final removal of flowers.. new linens.. volunteers@can’t get here bc of security so I rolled@up my sleeves got soap and water and scrubbed
The altar represents Christ who is both the lamb and place of sacrifice. Bathing the altar with care I prayed over the Bl Mother washing him as a babe, then cleaning his wounds at Calvary. The work came out great
Later today: baptism at 1 in Latin and final prep for mass at 5 in English (we have a trilingual parish: Eng Lat and Cantonese)
Some weeks ago a church official questioned whether or not I was a “team player” because I consulted an old friend in Rome who’s a canonist about the rights of parishes
Yesterday I got a detailed email from a parishioner reminding me how essential it is to have exactly 3 matching linens on every altar. As if I’d never done this before having been a sacristan in seminary, in a Roman parish and in every church I’ve been in for 13yrs of ministry
People may not realize how much their hastily offered words hurt their priests. Pray for us: we’re really just trying to care of the body of Jesus in very trying times.
