Jaycee Horn, @jayceehorn_10, is a 21 year old cornerback from The University of South Carolina. Horn, the son of former NFL WR Joe Horn, was born in Alpharetta, GA where he attended high school at Alpharetta High.
Jaycee enters the draft after three seasons in the SEC where he demonstrated consistent growth in coverage, tackling and strength. After primarily playing in the slot, Horn made the jump to outside for 2019 and 2020, where he best projects in the NFL.
With prototypical size, length and physicality, Horn is perfect for guarding X-receivers because of how disruptive he is in press and at the catch point. Horn’s primary concern is his tackling, which is a moot point with his physicality.
Watch here as Horn is in position through the entire route before a push off at the top by the receiver. Even so, Horn is in position to make a play and completes the interception for a turnover and run back.
Good eyes and quick feet are evident for Jaycee. Watch here as he doesn’t bite on the pump fake, stays clean in his coverage and collapses down on the targeted route after the QB feels pressure for another INT.
Here’s where the size/length show up. The QB rolls out and fires a bomb down the field. The receiver boxes out and puts Jaycee in a bad position but the wingspan allows him to reach through the receiver and make a play in the ball, bad position or not.
Watch the physicality on fellow draft entree Seth Williams here. Hands on through the whole route. He feels his way through what Seth is running and is in position for the PBU when Nix makes the throw.
Again, physicality. This is a timing corner fade route by Vanderbilt. Because of the disruption at the line of scrimmage, it throws off the timing which allows for an easy PBU by Jaycee.
Again. PHY-SI-CAL! Although outsized by Williams, Jaycee pins the receiver to the outside which puts him in a position to battle for the ball at the catch point. Even if Williams makes this play, it’s gonna be on sports center later because of the coverage. No Moss for you.
Alabama running a designed roll out looking for the corner or flat. Jaycee collapses down on the flat route to force Tua to throw for the corner. Closing speed, quick feet and decision making allow Jaycee to retreat to the corner route for the PBU.
Indecision by the QB and Jaycee’s glue like coverage allow the defense to convert a turnover. Watch the length as he reaches around the receiver to tip the ball up, allowing his teammate to make the diving INT.
Another clip of Williams/Horn. Auburn tried Jaycee all day with Seth Williams and the results were the same all day. Incomplete after a physical PBU.
Everybody’s favorite Heisman winner, DeVonta Smith on the skinny post. He makes a good move and is open at the top of the route but Jaycee’s competitiveness and nose for the football allows for him to punch it out at the catch point and make the PBU.
Williams on the slant. Results are the same. LOCKS!
Something I don’t want to undersell is Jaycee’s ball skills. You’ll see him sell the coverage, collapse on first movement and immediately go for the ball on impact after working through a block.
Physicality is never questioned. Watch Najee Harris try to bounce this outside where he’s met by Jaycee. Head up, form tackle and is stopped for a minimal gain.
This is why I say that tackling is a moot point for Jaycee. Quick screen on the outside, watch him blow up Seth Williams as a blocker and collapse on the ball carrier for a NICE stop.
Truthfully, Jaycee is my CB1 is this class. He projects very similarly to Marlon Humphrey/Jalen Ramsey and his development is unquestionable. Size, length, speed, aggression and tackling all check out and can only go up from here.
Horn projects as a top 12-21 pick but as I said before, that’s my CB1 and if the Eagles elect to trade down, Horn has to be the target.
Best wishes on your future in the NFL, CB1! @jayceehorn_10
