I need to explain that most of Jump editors are promoting MC focus story narrativism. It means the main story plot needs to always revolved with MC and side characters have deep bond with MC. Many jp fans talks about the sucess of KNY and JJK because they follow this rule.
Many jp fans pointed out the problem of mha recent chapters such as my villain academia, the main plots have nothing to do with MC. And many side characters dont even have deep bond with MC. So mha kind of fall out off Jump's traditional MC focus narrative rule.
Kishimoto even remind Hori he should follow MC focus narrative rule. But Hori clearly took a bold step and ignore his advice
considering Kishimoto's second manga series was a huge flop...so i think MC focus narrative doesnt always guarantee sucess

I think its fine to give side characters more development or even gives them their own arc. JJK and KNY also did the same thing focusing on Rengoku and Gojo instead of MC. But i have to confess the truth is Japanese fans do favor Hero side a lot..so MVA is def not Jp taste...
The villain of jjk and KNY, muzan and mahito are also not that popular in Jp...thats just our Jp taste, we love MC side more. so imagine giving Muzan or Mahito their own long arc without the existence of MC
Creating a charisma villain character well loved by jp fans is not easy
