Anime and Hip-Hop: 2 Cultures Collide (a thread) #Anitwt
Before we hit the thread if you could hit the RT and likes it would be very appreciated. Had this topic researched around for days.

Now back again to the program of Asian Media and Hip Hop.
The beginning of Asian Media entering USA:

Around the 1970s, Asian media was mostly popular on Chinese/Japanese Martial Art films as they are popularized to be aired around Black Cinema where Blaxploitation was big with its action induced flicks.
This would be somewhat the start of the love for Asian media starts as one of the earliest case on Hip-Hop for it if not for New York's finest one and only, Wu-Tang Clan.

Their debut that are blasted with samples from Asian Martial Art films and this is just the beginning.
Now Wu-Tang's love for Anime will be explored more soon but as for now on 1996, Ghostface Killah dropped Daytona 500. This track would have a music video which is taken from 1967's anime, Speed Racer making this the first AMV to exist.
Moving a year later, a revolutionary program turned around with Toonami. Cartoon Network formed up a small program called Toonami that would usually sparks up Anime for Americans showing series from Japan.
What makes Toonami special? Aside from showing anime to a larger audience towards the Western what makes them big, there's the late night music video run with artists such as Daft Punk and Gorillaz which is an anime inspired band with rapper Del the Funky Homo Sapien (1/2)
Of Hieroglyphics as one of the animated characters in there.

It is somewhat kind of obvious on his love with anime as he also referenced Ghost in the Shell at Deltron 3030, a sci-fi concept Hip-Hop album with Dan the Automator and Kid Koala in productions.
Talking about animes, there are some series that are influenced by Black Culture with am example of Shinichiro Watanabe's classic, Cowboy Bebop with its Jazz influences.
Remember how we said we will return to Wu-Tang Clan? Now there's another anime series, Afro Samurai. Voiced over by Samuel L. Jackson himself.

And guess who's on production? RZA. The one and only RZA produce the soundtracks for this series.
Scratch the record a bit and let's set back to Shinichiro Watanabe. On 2004, he would somewhat makes a series that have sounds of the future and there's no other genre that fits the sound more than Hip-Hop and we are talking about the series, Samurai Champloo.
Made by Nujabes, a Japanese Hip-Hop producer, the soundtrack for Samurai Champloo would be influential breaking racial bridges as a pure Asian making a staple for the Hip-Hop community influencing the lo-fi chillhop as we know today.
Adult Swim then would have its own take after taking a comic strip and make an Anime influenced series made by a studio owned by Madhouse (Anime studio) and the show has huge influence from Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop.
Kanye West and the Anime community

Kanye Omari West is one of the highest Hip Hop artist that have love for Anime. Earliest anime reference to appear on his record would be Lupe Fiasco's guest verse with Lupin III reference. (Shout out to Lupe since he also a huge anime fan)
If there's an anime that Kanye totally love then it would be Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira which is the most influential anime to break into USA.

While everyone was on a Gangsta Rap era at 2007, Kanye's weeb love for the Anime steps into the world from collaborating with Japanese artist and his Akira inspired music video, Stronger
Stepping into the new modern decade

It's the 2010s and there are a LOT more exponential rise of Anime in Hip-Hop

Here on 2010, underrated Hip-Hop group, Das Racist performing Rapping 2 U which samples Samurai Champloo's Shiki No Uta by Nujabes
Around 2012, underground rapper Airospace would be a pioneer for the Emo Rap community using Anime references and such with his mixtape having productions from Kankick and FlyLo.
Another pioneer of Anime in Hip Hop culture would be Lil B as he has shown his love for the medium of the art and sampled it on his 2011 album, I'm Gay (I'm Happy) sampling Joe Hisaishi's Spirited Away OST, One Summer Day
Other modern artist that has shown love to Anime would also goes to majority of SoundCloud rappers, Zack Fox, Open Mike Eagle, Frank Ocean, Thundercat, Snoop Dogg, Logic, and also Denzel Curry.
A lot of rappers have also sampled from anime from Curren$y, Jedi Mind Tricks, Chris Travis, Lil Peep and J. Cole....Jermaine..COLE...
The biggest open Anime loving mainstream rappers out there then it would goes to Lil Uzi Vert with his anime Lamborghini and also XXXTENTACION that also has a MyAnimeList account.
Anime's influences towards Hip-hop has been a lot with references from shows such as Naruto, Attack on Titan, Death Note, Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon Ball Z, One Punch Man a LOT more.
And finally there are modern animes that also takes Hip-Hop influences there are Gurren Laggan, Devilman Crybaby and some more.
