the problem w/analyzing “Trumpism” as an ideological movement is that it has no genuine ideological content

there certainly could be a real working-class conservatism

the country would benefit from it

but to the extent it involves Trump, it’s just anger embroidered with lies
the idea of a political “movement” suggests some connection between the leader and the authentic interests of followers

that’s not the case with Trump, who cares only about how he can exploit others to benefit himself

Trump University is an apt pre-presidency example
the corrupt, violent end to his presidency has finally placed Trump and “Trumpism” squarely in the appropriate analytical frame

it’s not politics at all

it’s criminal justice
