Siemens Mobility signed a landmark MoU worth $23bn to install a 1000km high-speed rail transportation network across Egypt.

The high-speed rail network will be implemented by Siemens in cooperation with two local companies, Orascom Construction & the Arab Contractors.
Siemens Mobility will provide high-speed, regional trains & freighters also it will install the rail infrastructure, system integration & other services.

Choosing the company that will implement the project came after a tender to chose best cost & take into account the duration.
The project includes three main phases for the construction of high-speed train, regional train & the freighters, which will be on a separated line to connect Red Sea ports as Ain Sokhna & Suez with Mediterranean ports as Alexandria port as well as the New 6th October dry port.
The high-speed train will be at speed of 250km/h & will stop only at the main stations only as Ain Sokhna, New Capital, South Cairo, 6th October, Borg Al-Arab & Alamein.

Regional trains will be at a speed of 150km/h & will stop at 24 stations

Freighters will be at 110km/h speed
Some points for clarification

$6bn is the total cost of the high-speed railway line (460km) from Ain Sokhna to Al-almein city passing through the New Egypt's Capital, Cairo & Alexandria.

$23bn is a total cost of a huge network consists of up to three high-speed railway lines.
This deal offers the best price to Egypt as said by president al-Sisi

The Chinese construction alliance (CCECC) was going to establish (Ain Sokhna - Al-almein) high-speed rail line worth more than $9bn while Semines group will construct it with a total cost of $6.3bn.
The high-speed railway network will be a new transfer & shift in Egypt transportation networks. Also it will help facing any future economic threats that can affect the Suez canal income as the proposed Israeli freighters line between Eilat & Ashdod.
There are many future extentions for these high-speed rail lines that will reach to East Port Said Economic & Industrial Zone to connect it with Egypt's mainland, extending Ain Sokhna line to reach to Hurghada resort city on the Red Sea passing through the New Galala resort city.
It's worth noting that this project is totally different from Cairo-10th of Ramadan-New Capital LRT light rail transit which will be completed by the end of this year and is being implemented by the Chinese (CRCC) in cooperation with local companies worth a $1.2 loan from China.
According to Egypt's Minister of Transportation, the new high-speed rail network will include a rail line that will extend to the west to reach Sallum border city passing by Gargoub port, Matrouh & Dabaa, while in the south it will reach to Hurghada, Safaga then to Qena & Luxor.
