tw // manchester bombing

an informative thread on why babygaters should stop using the bee emoji; from someone from manchester
as most of you will know, on 22 may 2017, manchester arena was bombed after the ariana grande concert. 22 people died and many more people were injured. being from manchester i experienced first hand the aftermath of this attack, and the effect it had on everyone
one of my best friends was at the concert and i’ll never forget how it felt waking up to the news and knowing she was at that concert. she was one of the lucky ones who survived and was not injured, but so many other people could not say the same
now i’m going so explain how the bee symbol fits into this: the bee is a symbol that has represented manchester for over 100 years, known as the working bee, as manchester was home to many factories etc during the industrial revolution
after the manchester bombing, the city of manchester and its citizens used the bee to symbolise our strength, and how this horrific event wasn’t going to bring us down and it is also used as a symbol to remember those who lost their lives and pay tribute to them
the bee is everywhere in manchester, if you go into the city centre you will find it on bins, park benches, buildings even to show that these people are remembered and will never be forgotten. many people also got it tattooed to pay tribute
so babygaters please, you have so many other emojis that you could use, just use them. i know so many people that would love to be able to use this emoji in their dns to pay tribute and show their respect, but they can’t because the meaning of the emoji has been twisted
no matter how much you try to justify it, your theory will never be more important than this so just use a different emoji it’s not hard
i’m gonna mute this because all the notifs are making me anxious i’m not ignoring you i promise
