I've thought all night about this and I have some thoughts.
Drunk Driving laws (and the MADD campaign to enforce them or put the on the books) are a perfect example https://twitter.com/becomingjenn/status/1350191533450960896
Drunk driving occurred a LOT in the 70's. Some states had laws, some didn't. But it was accepted, culturally about everywhere. Almost every adult I knew did it a little, mostly just to the corner store.
Then MADD came around in the latter 70's into the 80's. They reframed the issue on it. It' was no longer about your 'freedom' to drink and drive (yeah I remember the MSM coverage even then), but you CHOICE to engage in a criminal act that could KILL.
It took a long time to sink in(well it seemed to me, as a kid the night before Christmas lasts 10 yrs). Most adults in my life then started realizing their part in the whole thing. The danger of just driving to the corner store.
I'm not saying we've 'cured' DD, but we no longer, as a society, coddle them. They are engaged in an act that endangers lives. We don't have multiple news stories talking about THEIR rights and humanizing them for their very real potentially deadly acts.
It took MSM to come fully on board before perceptions started to change. That is what I want for masks. I realize that the danger is passing with vaccination, but until then and right now with record numbers, we MUST continue to mask
Going maskless in a pandemic is like drinking and driving. Yeah, you may make it home all fine, but the potential is there. And from the 1/6 Terror Attack, the GOP harmed way more DNC going maskless than the armed terrorists.
So PLEASE MSM, I'm begging you. Please reframe going maskless as someone CHOSING to kill someone else. Every question you should ask a maskless person in a pandemic is:
"So why are you trying to kill everyone here?" "Did these people deserve to die?"
Call them out on their dangerous acts. Don't try and humanize their position. This is NOT an ISSUE about rights, but maybe MSM and others, you can reframe it as a 'right to life' issue.
I'm just a chica who would like to leave my house and NOT die, KWIM?
