1/8 @MerPolChiefCon I am incredibly disappointed in your attempts at gaslighting @KimJohnsonMP and the wider black community. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/merseyside-police-chief-constable-city-19601547
2/8 in relation to the latest data which shows that black people in Merseyside are:
-More than 3 x more likely to have force used against them
-More than 4 x more likely to be tasered
-More than 6 x more likely to have firearms drawn or used against them
-More than 3 x more likely to have force used against them
-More than 4 x more likely to be tasered
-More than 6 x more likely to have firearms drawn or used against them
3/ 8 Your deflection of these statistics ‘not being as bad’ as other UK police forces are laughable, as are your attempts to silence Kim by labeling her (fair) criticism of discriminatory police practices ‘divisive’.
4/8 This is a tactic used by many who are privileged enough to choose not to see racism. There were similar attempts made to silence me when I reported the racism which I experienced when serving as a Police Officer in your force. Racism that almost caused me to take my own life.
5/8 All of the officers involved still serve in your force, so please do not attempt to minimise the gravity of the institutional racism running rife throughout @MerseysidePolice. I need no reminder but if you do, I’d be happy to send you the Crime Ref Number for the report.
6/8 Detailing the culture of white supremacy, racism and sexism within your force. This culture is not confined to the Police Station and too often spills out onto the streets of Merseyside where innocent black people are being targeted and having unjust force used against them.
7/8 Kim was right to call this out. Myself, @merseysideBLM and the wider #ukblm community stand shoulder to shoulder with her in her efforts to end the racist police practices that unfairly target the black community. This year marks 40 years since the Toxteth riots.
8/8 We need to reflect on progress made in eradicating institutionalised Police Racism since 1981. I am committed to fighting against institutional police racism and fighting for racial equality. My DM’s are always open if you would like to meet to discuss this further.
