1. The qualification vs. experience chat & related salaries is proof that as a student/graduate you must map out your career wisely. Have a clear goal as to why you want to go for that NQF level 9/10 and whether it will benefit you & industry you’re in.
2. The downside of spending 10 years in varsity and exiting with a PhD to join public/private sector is that, yes, you will have that qualification; however you will lack plus or minus five years of experience which your peers will have.
3. Due to that, you’ll likely be paid less than those who’ve been working for 5 years even though they’ll be less qualified than you. Therefore, you will most likely start at the bottom with a less salary. Experience does matter.
4. My advice is to seek employment if you can, then further your studies while working. In that way, you’ll be a well rounded individual with both experience and added qualification which will give you that competitive advantage.
5. The end. Happy weekend everybody 🌸
