1/ It’s been a real eye opener to see parents of children with special needs turn against eachother. I would have thought that we all, as a group would have empathy for one another and understand that some kids need school, routine & individual therapies more than others...
2/ I would have thought we all get it even though our journeys are so different. For example my son has hugely complex medical needs and is immunosuppressed, he is high risk and cannot go to school until he is vaccinated & has not been since March... @GarNob @AdamPHarris
3/ But I totally understand & am fighting alongside all other parents of kids with Special needs that schools should reopen for our cohort of children. The staff should be treated as frontline workers, they should be prioritised for vaccination... @CathMurphyTD @BernardDurkanTD
4/ School for our kids is so much more than education. It’s therapy, it’s socialisation, some children receive necessary therapies and importantly it’s respite for families. A suite of options as Inclusion Ireland said is what is needed. One size does not fit all... @ReadaCronin
5/ So homeschooling with support for some and return to school for most is what is required. We all struggle for supports every single day and we should all be mindful and respectful that every situation is different... @eilishor @MichealMartinTD @LeoVaradkar @EmerHigginsTD
6/ We should all pull together to get the best outcome for ALL of our children.
