White fauxgressives because here in Detroit that’a who it is. Their parents/grandparents left during white flight & now they think living here is “hip and cool” and they think we need them to “organize” even tho most of us have been “organizing” before they were born. I’ll never
Forget when they started moving here in droves & the city tried everything 2 get long time residents out of their homes. They evicted a 100 year old Black Woman in the rain on a very old tax bill she didn’t know she owed bc her son ( in his 60s) thought it was junk mail & threw
Out the notices. They threw her belongings in the dumpster in the rain. We rallied behind her ( yes I was there helping to try and save her stuff) and called the media. She got to stay & If I remember right the city forgave the bill, but her stuff ( that was my focus) was ruined
And these were things that can’t ever be replaced. We were able to replace the basics but she had things she had accumulated over her 100 years that couldn’t be bought again. This is what y’all are causing. It caused mass water shut offs in poorer Black neighborhoods on back
Water bills they suddenly decided they needed to collect on while Businesses were left alone, and it’s Caused a lot of us 2 b afraid to sell our homes bc we know we can’t afford the prices to move back in. We also know that discriminatory lending & housing segregation makes it
Difficult to move into some of the suburbs. They’re politically gentrifying us by pouring white dollars into our districts knowing our Black candidates can’t compete with that kind of money & we can’t raise it for them bc we have families to take care of. I’m so tired of hearing
Them squeal about classism and don’t even acknowledge the role they’re playing in harming us through gentrification. In Brooklyn they replaced a long time state assembly member with a gentrifier, but she’s the “real progressive.”
