Dear @LozzaFox, your daily mantra that ‘All Lives Matter’ has finally roasted my chestnuts so deeply that I'm moved to respond. Saying ‘All Lives Matter’ is the ultimate way of diminishing the experience of black people & the manner in which they’ve been treated over the (1/6) https://twitter.com/LozzaFox/status/1350182083302457344
years. The Black Lives Matter movement is not suggesting for a moment that their lives are of more intrinsic value than anyone else’s. It’s pointing out that, historically, black lives have NOT mattered to so many people around the world. (2/6)
Saying ‘All Lives Matter’ is like going to a cancer benefit & storming the stage to declare that Alzheimer’s Matters. No one is suggesting otherwise! It deliberately takes away from the fact that black people have suffered extraordinary hardship throughout history, (3/6)
from slavery in the States to Australia’s Stolen Generation to England’s Windrush scandal. Black Lives Matter is saying to people ‘stop killing us for no reason’; All Lives Matter is pretending this doesn’t happen. It’s a nefarious attempt to stall any conversation about (4/6)
systematic racism. Remember, no one ever used that phrase until the BLM campaign came along, so it was invented & is employed as a direct contradiction of those three simple words & is thrown out by people who feel that if they haven’t experienced prejudice themselves, (5/6)
then it doesn’t exist. I hope you’ll consider this before continuing to use that phrase. Either way, you've said it enough that you've probably made your point & it doesn't need to be repeated continuously. Other than that, Happy New Year. (6/6)
