As a UK man living in a mostly gun-less society answer me this America. Why do civilians need guns like this?
The M134 General Electric Minigun is available to civilians.

I get that America is full of crazed serial killers, In motels, with chain saws, with knives and in dreams. But wouldn't a hand-gun do for self-defence. Do you really need a gun that fires up to 166 times per second
The M134 Minigun is available to citizens of the USA and for the gentler sex fits comfortably (when dismantled) into two of these charming Chanel handbags.

Fell Pretty and Safe with this combo, "Killa-filla"
The only guns you can get in Britain today are hunting rifles and shotguns, and even then they are heavily monitored and restricted.

In the UK there have been zero school shooting since 2009.

In the USA 288 since 2009.
Rhys Milford Jones (27 September 1995 – 22 August 2007) was an English boy who was murdered in Liverpool at the age of 11 - This was such a big deal it was made into a mini-series.

Every year, 7,782 children and teens are shot in the United States.
The U.S. is ranked 4th out of 34 developed nations for the highest incidence rate of homicides committed with a firearm. Mexico, Turkey, Estonia take the top three spots.

The graphic below is interesting. Look how the USA red-line (GR) is much longer than the green line (NGR).
On June 12, 2016, The weapons below, in the hands of just one man, killed 49 people and wounded 53.

This was the 'Orlando nightclub shooting'.
I want to answer everyone but there are too many responses. I enjoy the varied opinions although I haven't much time for abusive and raging replies. Democracy is the balance that can be found somewhere between two opposing views and it is nice that democracy can survive Trump.
'The Plot to Bring Down Britain’s Planes' is a documentary about the plot to blow up many airplanes flying out of Heathrow Airport using liquid bombs.

12 men were convicted.

The police used no guns and the US counterparts could not believe this was possible.
If you can own a weapon that can shoot 166 rounds per second, a weapon of mass destruction, what other weapons should be legitimate private property?
One common reply I received as to why someone needs a weapon like this is "a woman confronted with a leering 300lb rapist (not Trump) needs to defend herself."

So as I understand it, in America there are many cases of women fighting off such assaults with these weapons. Correct?
