Many of these frames required intensive cleaning to remove dirt or bronze overpaint from the original surface, and each object needed a very different approach to achieve the best result.

This frame is mostly made of timber. Dating of this frame is inconclusive, as there is a 1924 historical image of the painting – Arthur #Streeton's 'The melon' – in a different frame.

The technique used here, with gel and a dry swab, is helpful for sensitive surfaces as it prolongs exposure of the surface to the solvent in the gel, and reduces the need to agitate the surface.
