girl.
*Kelly came from a less than affluent family and she was one of 5 siblings. Kelly also didn't believe that you need to bath every day. Her upbringing may have had something to do with this - but I will never know.
Anyway, a group of girls in the hostel took it on

themselves to give a *Kelly a lesson in hygiene. In the early morning hours, they burst into our room with shoe polish, syrup and a number of other hard to remove products. They proceeded to smearing *Kelly and her bed with these items.

hero in this story, I didn't participate. In fact the majority of us girls didn't participate. We did however, stand-by and watch and none of us actually stopped what was happening.

was no longer the bubbly girl with jokes. *Kelly also started showering much more often.
I have no idea where *Kelly is today, I also don't know what impact this event had on her life. What I do know, as a parent and an adult, is that if my children participate in such an act

cruelty, or watch as someone is stripped of their dignity, there are huge gaps in my parenting.
