I fucking hate this “everyone was wrong” line that commentariat keep pushing, no, *we* weren’t, *you* were, because you focused on short term economics with an optimism bias filter turned up to “magical thinking” whereas a lot of us went “we don’t have enough data be careful”
While they were making fun of us for saying “I don’t want to die so I can stop Pret from going bankrupt”, the “eat out to help out” scheme became the engine of spike 2.
The human brain evolved to see danger, it’s why we remember criticism more than praise, so why are we letting the people who seem most adept at overriding our evolutionary imperative write the columns for our papers and provide commentary on our current affairs shows?
Time and again they not only prove themselves wrong, but dangerously wrong in ways that was being foreseen at the time they were wrong and in ways that allow us to deny the truth we’re seeing with our own eyes. You can’t big lie your way out of a pandemic.
And those who are still saying “everyone did badly” are simps for whatever flavour kool aid the Tories are serving up, at this point you’re beyond naïve, you’re a rube and a mark for their shake down.
