(ACQUISITION THREAD 1/7)

According to @bdsams there are som major players looking at acquisitions in the gaming industry. While it isn’t surprising, the full list is:

Looking hard for acquisitions:
Microsoft
Google
Amazon

Looking, but not as hard:
Sony
EA
(2/7)The thing that had worried me since Microsoft bought Zenimax was the fact that it might’ve waken up Google and Amazon that is, in fact, entering the video game industry with Stadia and Luna.

While I don’t think they’re going for publishers, we could see some great devs be
(3/7)Picked up by them.

Regarding #Microsoft I think they’ll either get another publisher (WB) and be done for a while, or get a few random devs (Asobo, Techland, Bloober)

Regarding #EA I don’t really know. I think they’re interested partly in devs, but mostly in IPs that give
(4/7)Them more annual or an every other year release. (Similar to F1 and #Codemasters)

Sony is a tougher nut to crack. Obviously they’re going to put the ring on #Bluepoint soon. However, I think #Housemarque is in a very similar position: if Returnal succeeds, why wouldn’t
(5/7)They make it official?

#Sony is interesting, there are some devs that fit well with them, but its uncertain how hard Sony is going. Examples:

Kadokawa helps Sony in both anime and games, lots of IP based anime, and they own From Software and Spike Chunsoft which help
(6/7)The gaming division.

The second one I’m keeping in mind is... #Konami. Reason being that while I’m entertaining the idea of someone like Square, it’s important to remember that Square has a big precence on stuff like Nintendo also. Konami is pretty much dead. It gives them
(7/7)Multiple iconic IP ( #MGS, #Castlevania, SH, #Bomberman, PES) while also giving them a lot of staff / support devs which they want/need more of.

In the end I guess we’ll see. It’s very interesting, but not surprising seeing everyone in the market :)
