To be clear, Mitch McConnell didn’t have the leverage to not hold an impeachment trial. But when he announced he wasn’t holding one, and the media reported it as fact instead of pointing out he didn’t have the leverage, it gave him the leverage. As usual, the media fucked us.
Why do things like this happen? The media hates McConnell as much as you do. It’s not that they’re trying to help him. It’s just that they’ve built up a ratings friendly narrative about McConnell having infinite power, and they’re simply aren’t willing to poke holes in it.
Part of the vicious cycle is that the media has convinced YOU that villains like McConnell have infinite powers. It scares you into staying tuned in, gives you the adrenaline rush you’re addicted to, so you just go along with it instead of questioning it.
You have to break this vicious cycle by laughing at the media whenever they try to feed you simplistic bullshit for ratings. McConnell isn’t some evil wizard with a magic wand. Don’t let the media turn you into an eight year old by pushing such childlike narratives on you.
And don’t even think about blaming the Democrats. You take all their leverage away when you sit there and let the media tell you that your side is going to lose, instead of standing and fighting alongside the Democrats. They can’t win if you’re just yelling “we’re gonna lose!”
