I’m by no means an economist but it’s funny to me that we can never pass legislation to improve the lives of the American worker all because some dude in Ohio started a lawnmower repair shop and we all have to go without so he can maybe open a second location one day
Or how we prioritize the financial security of landlords over the actual lives of their tenants because the landlord *checks notes* bought a duplex
Like I’m happy that someone wants to start a business but as with any endeavor/hobby/activity WAY more people will not start a business during their life. So why do we gear our entire system to suit their interests as opposed to looking out for the vast majority who just work?
Again, I’m barely educated but wouldn’t lifelong access to healthcare and education for hundreds of millions of people have a far greater impact on the general well-being of the nation than whatever we get out of making sure the guy with a liquor store can fire employees at will?
Also wouldn’t it help small business owners if they could not have to worry about paying for their employees healthcare while simultaneously having healthy educated workers?
Also I’ve worked at enough places to see how much time and energy companies put into streamlining their operations with the stated goal of eliminating as many paid positions as they possibly can? And I know that hiring more workers is absolutely a last resort. I dunno man. Wild
Also, I’m not a world-of-business fanboy but don’t most businesses fail? Like something like 75% of them? Homies from back home post memes all the time that are like “This guy failed at everything his entire career then at age 78 he invented Four Loko #NeverGiveUp
Why is this the shit that we completely clear the aisle for? Why do we romanticize this shit that rarely works out? I dunno I’m just super stoned on the couch wondering why shit is the way it is. Wild. be safe yall
We place so much importance on individual liberty in this country. Which isn’t bad but I think we overdid. Like how the hosts on Westworld could have their traits adjusted. I think somebody accidentally cranked “personal freedom” to like 112% on America’s stat sheet
But we’re facing problems that increasingly affect us a whole and since we’ve rebranded “strengthening the community” as communist bullshit we’re getting ripped to shreds by shit that exposes the cracks in our ability to work together.
And I can’t help but think if we collectively put our tax dollars into shit that actually helped instead of insisting that it’s immoral to “make” someone pay for someone else’s healthcare we might feel like... more of a team? And maybe not get dunked by every problem we ever face
If our politicians hadn’t spent the last 70 years telling their base that social welfare programs are just money faucets for poor “others” to steal from “ya know....us REAL Americans” maybe Americans would think more about their fellow Americans and do socially responsible shit
Americans got tricked into thinking that a privacy fence, a deadbolt lock and a customizable assault rifle will keep the problems of a decaying society away from their front door. Like they can outrun the growing tent cities forever. And their kids will take over and do the same
But like yo you think shit sucks for YOU right NOW? Imagine what your kids are gonna face in 20 or 30 years when all the dystopian sci-fi shit kicks off. They’re probably gonna wish we didn’t debate the morality of student loan debt forgiveness in defense of the banks??
