What we saw at the Capitol last week wasn't the beginning of something.

It was a funeral. For white supremacy. For patriarchy. For the unearned privilege of being the default.

If the direction they seek were the future, it would be called a frontlash.

But it's not called that. It's called a backlash. It is a sideshow to the drama of the progress of America. https://the.ink/p/hope 

What America is trying is hard: To be a country of all the world, a country made up of all the countries, a country without a center of identity, without a default idea of what a human being is or looks like, without a shared religious belief, without a shared first language.

And so we have to fight these supremacies with everything we've got.

But we have to do more than that. We have to show the other side of the mountain. We have to make that beautiful future vivid to people.
