The saddest thing I've grown to realize is how many Star Trek "fans" truly don't care about diversity, oh they care about the veneer of it, but when marginalized groups are recognized and included beyond one-off guest stars and metaphors, suddenly it's "social justice BS"
You see, some Star Trek "fans" only use past diversity to pat themselves on the back as if all the work is done now and there's nothing else to do. Refusing to recognize the importance of authentic portrayals that go beyond some hollow surface that's occasionally propped up
The sad reality is that except perhaps DS9, no other Star Trek show until Discovery has given representation of marginalized groups proper due beyond them simply existing as background fixtures in majority white male protagonists' stories.
