This girl is deffo not “asianfishing” but we should keep the term. E.g fox eye lifts are a thing but Asians experience racism for their eye shape. Plus the white girls trying to look South Asians with excessive tanning etc when we have suffered under colourism. Redefine the term! https://twitter.com/theesudani/status/1350173375470174209
I think people forget about fishing and stuff when it comes to South Asians lol. So many girls try to look South Asian or Arab??? Or straight up culturally appropriate us???
ALSO idk if people are going to attack me for this but I think a lot of people confuse blackfishing with fishing for South Asian races. Personally I feel like a lot of celebs try to look like brown girls but it’s seen as blackfishing instead. Neither is right but (cont)
-black people & brown people experience racism around their skin colour in completely different ways. To group both under one collective term kinda diminishes that difference, which I know black people don’t appreciate and neither do we, as both experiences need to be understood
Anyway I’m not saying people don’t blackfish. But we should be smarter in spotting when it’s blackfishing vs asianfishing / “brownfishing” and vice versa, because there are different conversations to be had around either in educating why each is wrong.
Basically everyone just stick to your own race. Stop trying to look like black or brown or East Asian people if you’re not.
Example: the Kardashians deffo blackfish hair/face/skin. But someone like India, who has excessively tanned to look brown, looks... like a brown girl. She would deffo pass as South Asian but not black. But people would say this is blackfishing. WHICH (cont)
...ISNT AN ISSUE ITSELF but when we talk about why it’s wrong for India, it would be more relevant to discuss internalised colourism within South Asian communities rather than police brutality against black people, bc she doesn’t look black but is applauded for passing as brown.
Also just in case people are aware, India is white, even though her name is India lmao... fitting isn’t it. I hope people don’t think I sound stupid. All I’m trying to say is to respect that skin colour encompasses different things for different races.
If this still doesn’t make sense, think of this argument following the same principle about why people are annoyed at the use of “BAME” to group races under one blanket term in convos about racism, because each race experiences racism completely differently to one another!!!
