In 1997, South Korean president-elect Kim Dae-jung got the 1979-80 coup d'etat masterminds Chun Doo-hwan & Roh Tae-woo pardoned thru the outgoing Pres. Kim Young-sam. It didn't provide the expected healing & unity because Chun Doo-hwan remained defiant & unrepentant to this day. https://twitter.com/JacobHeilbrunn/status/1350129918580031488
One lesson learned from it is that pardoning defiant and unrepentant criminal ex-presidents does not provide the national healing and unity that some people expect to see with the pardon. A very important cautionary tale for Americans as we move forward.
Also, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said nothing about any possibility of pardoning the convicted criminal ex-presidents Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye. When talks of their pardons came up, the general consensus there has been no and it is premature to even talk about it.
