Would have suggested the same, 10-12 years ago, & all of these are fair points, but come second. Because something else is debilitating them for life, even before they start talking. It's how we teach them to live in a society, to connect with others & understand themselves. https://twitter.com/NeuroMaliki/status/1348611322083241984
The modern project has come to its fruition, where people, extolled for their 'individuality' have been cut-off from the natural ties of kinship, friendship, neighbourliness and made to believe that the shell that they live in is meant to protect them, while it's only a cage.
Deprived of the social, kids grow up as if in solitary confinement-wary of any social contact, any obligation that goes beyond their immediate network or bears ever so slightly on their lives. Parents who've been fed on the diet of 'be yourself' think they're protecting their kids
A seed from a tree deprived of basic nourishment, usually can't grow roots, leave alone become a tree. One sees many such seeds, who could have grown into tall shady trees. All you see is hollowness. Immersed in their own world of anxiety, its the shell of a person-on medication
Protect your children from this epidemic. Expose them to people, to social situations, to the elderly, to babies, to funerals and weddings. Reach out to others - relatives, neighbours, friends. And teach your children how to do it. How to 'be' with people.
Teach them how to sit with a grandmother who's hard of hearing, how to patiently listen to an 'nosy' aunt, how to patch-up with a friend, how to reach out to a shy neighbour.
Teach them that a world exists outside themselves. And that their life & happiness depends on this world.
