Today is January 15th, 2021...

In a Perfect World today is the first day of a National Basic Income as announced in the Throne Speech... It was a momentus day, filled with cheer and hope, because we knew walking into 2021 things were gonna get a whole lot better...

The provinces were mad, they stoked fire and brimstone style ad attacks, saying the feds overstepped, yet we all knew something had to be done, CERB had ended, cases were on the rise, we needed to ensure EVERYONE was covered not just the small and weak.

The Social Assistance Community rejoiced. Some of the Provinces after a short battle got together, they formed the Atlantic Special Support System. Robust and clean of means testing it covered everyone for Dental, Prescription, and Orthopedics. It was a miracle.

Quebec was the Quickest, they already had many supports they combined quickly and merged with the public Health Card system. This saved the Environment tons. Go green they said. We did.

Basic Income was feared, yet when the Average worker today recieved over $500 from no where, they questioned why, I'm still working, not unemployed, your spending my money, but then they answered "do what you want" ... So they did. Without fear. Because it was NON-TAXABLE...

A 20 year old Student in Alberta who lives with Mom & Dad because they cant afford rent just went from $639/mth to $1529. Woah, in 3 months I'll have my First & Last... Off the couch. They're at risk everyday I go looking for work. This is better.

The single mother in Ontario who has no job because her child has autism but isn't on ODSP yet, forced to live on OW for benefits.... Now she goes from $1002/mth to $1529 without any support for her child, that's another program. But now she can work and afford child care.

The college student who relied on Provincial Loans and Grants to pay for their books and tuition, is still looking for a job, to pay the rent, the food, the supplies, that job will stop their studies for 30hrs a week... Will I pass?

The Union Stewart, who struggled with layoffs, recalls, layoffs again, watches families question why they invested into a job that isn't secure, how are we to pay the rent, I want to stay, but I can't lose my home, now with BI I can do what I love...

Banks are reporting record numbers today, the promising outlook of Landlords flush with rent payments looks promising indeed. There is a new stability in the air, a sense of easing of the hard burden we have endured for years.

A 45yo retired Shop Keeper closed his business 3 years ago, times were good, he got a profit selling his hard earned business... Invested it, buried it away for a rainy day, but the rain didn't come, it was washed away in tears during a market crash. Now he can rebuild.
