The Qiao Collective’s Xinjiang resource compendium is hilarious. I’ve been going through it and I’m truly impressed by how many obvious issues there are. Often, what they link to to buttress their claims ends up being pretty contradictory. Some examples:
For example, if you actually look at this 2015 article (keeping in mind 2015 was before the current, much intensified crackdown) you’ll see the reporters freely admit some facts that contradict the CCP narrative, lol
Qiao is bewildered that you focus on the bad parts of the law while completely ignoring the perfectly good parts, which is super unfair :( China is twying its best uwu
(there’s a LOT wrong with those regulations, see link) https://wokeglobaltimes.com/33a959dd06214e1f9d1be3dfaef2b4e2

Qiao refuses to engage with Zenz seriously. It ignores the bulk of the paper—it’s mostly about the *huge* increase in camps that the PRC *denied existed*. I went thru every doc cited in the paper by hand and translated some https://wokeglobaltimes.com/55a65cd2edac48a3869381242dc6467a
(Speaking of ignoring inconvenient findings, several more damning media reports about Xinjiang are completely absent from this list. For example, the ICIJ China Cables report, which includes full translations) https://www.icij.org/investigations/china-cables/read-the-china-cables-documents/
Qiao does not explain why the SCMP headline so clearly contradicts the view Qiao endorses. And, of course, we know that that view is wrong. See e.g. the ICIJ cables, above, or interviews of any former detainee (shoutout to @shahitbiz )
Qiao is either illiterate, lazy, or lying (or some combination thereof)—the spreadsheet in this link includes links to many of the relevant contracting documents. Qiao's Chinese is bad, but still. (Since then, ASPI has greatly expanded the database.) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vR48u6lKYD21gv6mqM-2dV2lL8axuJ3yG5QJr2KNfG6bZNhy2dXDib_ZyFl9QKwvTRP0EBKZPYczwp9/pubhtml
AP interviewed one dozen people, which Qiao is evidently just going to write off. Also, the Chinese government is extremely bad at answering basic questions from reporters, which is amusing.
a funny thing about the diplomatic visits is that China usually only talks about the diplomats willing to heap praise on it. NYT quoted a Malaysian diplomat on one of these trips, which pissed Malaysia off—because it’d piss China off.

Journalist visits are also pretty funny. The ones PRC media quotes, of course, are those that are nice about it (like Val Thompson, whose terrible writing in his glorified blog speaks for itself).
Again, PRC propaganda/Qiao ignore all contradictory evidence. Khairah Karim is Malaysian Muslim woman and reporter who also was invited to the camps on this trip. She was *very* creeped out—see her article here: https://web.archive.org/web/20201228074014/https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2019/08/512399/uyghurs-freely-join-re-education-camps
Italian reporter Paolo Samon was also on the trip, and apparently provided some generically positive comments to state media—then he went home and wrote this article (in Italian), which is decidedly less friendly. There are a /lot/ of examples like this. https://www.corriere.it/esteri/19_agosto_01/gli-uiguri-campi-detenzione-dramma-musulmani-cinesi-c4432d6a-b47f-11e9-a4d8-63bea28b5635.shtml
I had a lot of fun with this one from awhile ago; both things Qiao claims here are false. See my post about that here: https://wokeglobaltimes.com/c227d529f6f0469392edbe07980f9f70
and finally, I leave you with my takedown of Jerry Bikesalot, whose blog will let you know that he's a deceptive hack. https://twitter.com/BadChinaTake/status/1344861652504752129?s=20
anyways this is just the stuff you can expose with a screenshot or two, and doesn't even include the wealth of academic literature beyond Zenz by scholars who know the region better than you or me. @qiaocollective is a shiny blog run by a mediocre brain at best.
Qiao’s lil denialist scrapbook is very long, several planned posts of mine deal with more specific aspects of it, but in the meantime, someone tell @RodericDay that thread of his is next. prepare thyself, hunty xoxo
