I’ve been a renter for most of my life. My family and I used to live in Section 8 housing. Like too many of us, I have had to choose between making rent and buying groceries, and I have lived in fear of rent increases displacing me from the city I love.
I’m thrilled by the news that rent control could be on the ballot in November.

Housing justice work is a core part of who I am, from opposing unjust evictions of neighbors in Whittier, to providing support to unhoused folks in encampments, to calling for action in the streets. I fight bc I know that housing is the cure for so many challenges we face.
We need rent control in Minneapolis so that renters, BIPOC folks, immigrants, seniors, multigenerational families, poor and working people, and people on fixed incomes can live with dignity and stability.

Housing is a human right, not a commodity.
