⚠️BIG THREAD⚠️

Since I was talking about this for a long time, here is my analysis on Camila’s “Living Proof” performance at the AMAs (2019).

*Atttention! The following thread is NOT meant to offend anyone's prespective or beliefs, it’s just my own point of view you.*
First of all, we should point out that there are three main visuals revolving around this performance which are Heaven, Earth and Hell.
The appearance starts off with an allegorical depiction of Heaven which connects directly with the intro of the song since it resembles (metaphorically) an angel’s chanting (that can also be indicated by the continuous use of the word Hallelujah)
We can see Camila dressed in a white one-piece, alongside and same as some of her backup dancers. The colour white in many occasions is representing purity and innocence which in this case fits perfectly the scenario of this whole “We’re in Heaven” situation.
As the video progresses it continues to the second theme of this particular performance which is none other than “the Earth”. The backup dancers in white remain by Camila’s side while we slowly observe the entrance of the rest dancers who are all dressed in pitch black.
At one part we have innocence and purity represented by the ones dressed in white, whilst in the contrary the black outfits represent sin (let’s not forget that the lyrics of the song contain Religious metaphors) and chaos which are obviously direct features of Hell and “evil”.
We can clearly observe that throughout the whole video the “Evil” is lurking behind Camila and the “white dancers”, trying to get as close to them as possible.
At one part, one of the dancers in black grabs her by the neck while she sings the line “cause I can’t breathe”. This shows that although she knows that the “darkness” is suffocating her and is bad for her in a way, she slowly starts to connect with it.
I’m not gonna make any comment about the following pictures because they speak by themselves
Moving on to the last part of the video in which we observe the final “encounter ” between the “Good and the Bad” where Camila is being approached by the dancers dressed in black and the “angels” try to keep her from falling.
The background in that scene is also changing as we proceed to the final theme of the performance which is “Hell”. That can be indicated by the thunders and the fire which slowly starts to creep in from within the flowers of Earth.
Next we observe a black rose approaching Camila’s body.Camila instead of staying away from that rose and simultaneously the hands trying to get close to her which is yet another metaphor for a sinful and evil situation, she embraces it and connects with it immediately.
After she throws it in the air we reach to the well known “Orgy” scene where the good meets bad. An orgy between “demons” and “angels” as it is portrayed here, is a very strong symbolism for falling into sinful situations. Especially since the song indicates a sexual activity.
In general, this performance gave a clear portrayal of Camila’s internal battle between her willpower and temptation to do something forbidden, something that could in other words “burn” her. And as it seems falling into temptation and letting herself go was the final choice.
Once again this thread is not meant to offend anyone. It’s simply a personal observation.
