"The [40-mile] project would cost between $13.8 billion and $16.8 billion, depending on the alignment chosen, according to the FRA report, which is higher than previous estimates." https://twitter.com/postlocal/status/1350187093780267012
MARC: $8
Amtrak NEC: $15
Amtrak Acela: $46

Maglev: $60
Here's the draft EIS for DC-Baltimore maglev, for those that want some light weekend reading: https://www.bwmaglev.info/index.php/project-documents/deis#
The DC-Baltimore maglev's preferred Baltimore station location is in Cherry Hill, on the wrong side of the Patapsco from downtown Baltimore.
SCMAGLEV: you'll be able to take 7 MARC trips for the cost of one of ours.
federal agencies have Concerns (TM) about the maglev project
J-03 is the current preferred alternative. Even the Secret Service is involved!
Not impacted by the preferred alternative: demolishing a federal courthouse to make way for a parking garage.
"...and a partridge in a pear tree!"
J-03, again, is what's shown as the preferred alternative.
Cute little rail yards. SCMAGLEV apparently has changed from expecting 12-car trains to now 16-car trains, which would be inspected/maintained at this "TMF" facility.
Tentative details of the 3 SCMAGLEV stations. DC's would be in Mt. Vernon Square and would include a new underground 1000-car parking garage. Cherry Hill's might have 5,000 spaces.
They're looking at building the BWI maglev station below the current hourly garage, which requires a bus transfer if you want to get to Amtrak/MARC.
The Camden Yards Station illustrative diagram is missing elevators?
DC-Baltimore maglev service hours: 5am - 11pm

Trains would run every 8-15 minutes (peak vs off-peak)

Trains currently will be made of 16-cars each (1312 ft long), holding up to 543 passengers.
DC-Baltimore maglev construction costs range from $10.6 to $12.9 billion for 38-41 miles of track. J-03 is the preferred alternative ($10.6b).
Neither MD nor DC have said to date they'll provide local money to the project.

FRA cost worksheets: https://www.bwmaglev.info/images/document_library/deis/appendices/App-G_DEIS_Part%20K.pdf
But...when you add in not just construction but parcel acquisition, professional services, contingency, and the rest...you get these numbers, which show the project cost for the J-03 alternative coming in at $13.83 billion.

SCMAGLEV thinks they'll have yearly ridership of 2.7 million people in 2030 and 3.7mil in 2045.

Total MARC rail ridership from DC to Baltimore in 2017 was, coincidentally, also 2.7 million

SCMAGLEV assumes 57% of rail riders will divert to them from Acela, Amtrak, and MARC.
ITT: 1.75 million MARC riders will choose to spend $60 instead of $8 by switching to MAGLEV to save ~15 minutes for their trips between Baltimore & DC. https://twitter.com/srepetsk/status/1350456258575425537
Not my focus of this thread, but SCMAGLEV acknowledges building the project "would intensify gentrification and displacement pressures."
