No Twitter thread of scholarships will open the door to funded graduate studies, unless you take the next steps.

I’ve advised many people on grad school scholarships and within 15 minutes, I can almost rightly predict who will get a scholarship in a year or two.
These are the attitudes I’ve observed from those who are successful.

1. They understand they are entering into a competition.
A scholarship application isn’t something you just submit hoping that vibes and insha allah will make the committee select you.
Will you compete at the olympics without training? Will you run a 10k without preparing? You have to put your best foot forward and do everything to build a competitive profile. Some people already have competitive profiles, but others may need to build one strategically.
2) People who get scholarships understand the power of research and are willing to dedicate TIME to it.

Research takes time. You have to find the right programs, scholarships, supervisor then you need a deeper level of research to demonstrate your competence. Resilience is key.
If you think one evening of searching on google will unearth all the graduate school opportunities you are eligible for, you are wrong.

I proudly say that I started searching for masters scholarships since 200 level. How would I have attended @cambridgelaw without a scholarship?
3) People who get scholarships learn how to sell themselves.

The best predictor of your future success is your past.

Sell yourself well.

Quit saying “I’m focused, hardworking and academically excellent” without backing your statements up with facts and evidence!
4) People who get scholarships demonstrate quickly that they are a good return on investment for the scholarship body or the school.

Paint a picture of your bright future. Make the school/ organization understand that it’s in their best interest to have YOU in their school.
As @Mochievous said, relocating using school has its struggles. However quality education can create a pathway for achieving even your wildest dreams. Pay the price now, do the work now and reap the rewards sooner than you think.
