I asked @RepPeteStauber, a retired cop, this week if he felt responsible at all for the Capitol officer's death: “I’m really appalled you would ask that question. Putting me as a member of Congress responsible for an officer’s death, that’s unconscionable even to ask me that.” https://twitter.com/jaketapper/status/1350116924802424833
He proceeded to lecture: "As a professional reporter, I feel it was uncalled for," Stauber said, telling me to "take a breather," and asking me to "review the tape," in order to reflect on how I approached the question.
So I did. Here's the question verbatim: "Pete we watched the police officer [pause] we learned he died from the beating he took on the steps. Do you feel in any way responsible for that, for not accepting the election earlier?"
To his credit, Stauber voted favorably to certify the election. A week earlier, he'd joined GOP support for the Texas lawsuit which sought and failed in the U.S. Supreme Court to discredit votes in Pennsylvania, won by Biden. https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/news/government-and-politics/6837580-Stauber-wants-rioters-held-accountable-stops-at-Trump
