Now that the legislature has transformed the health care 1 in 5 Tennesseans rely on into limited grant program, it's worth looking back at @TNGOP's record on health care.
Start with Obamacare. They passed on $1 billion a year for health insurance for 300,000 Tennesseans. Everyone agrees people have died because of this. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/07/medicaid-saves-lives/595096/
TN Commissioner of Insurance approves the highest rate increases in the country. Unlike other states, we don't push back or negotiate. https://apnews.com/article/b0df52cd86664f76a8a692dde163070a
TN Attorney General joins Texas v. United States. If successful, it would end coverage for pre-existing conditions. They have opposed legislation to create a mandate in Tennessee. https://www.kff.org/health-reform/issue-brief/explaining-california-v-texas-a-guide-to-the-case-challenging-the-aca/
Nearly 200,000 kids disenrolled from TennCare over paperwork, and there's been no serious effort to get them back in the system. https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/health/2020/02/07/tennessee-kids-cut-state-medicaid-insurance-due-paperwork-issues-audit-tenncare/4679300002/
Meanwhile, hospitals across the state have closed because they've had to provide indigent care, without the federal assistance they had pre-ACA, to a highly uninsured population. https://www.tennessean.com/story/opinion/2020/04/30/rural-hospitals-tennessee-still-closing-despite-coronavirus-plan/3044844001/
Now, despite a decade of disinvestment in health care for Tennesseans, we are supposed to believe that @GovBillLee will save money with the block grant experiment, without cutting any benefits and use that money to expand health coverage. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/08/upshot/medicaid-tennessee-trump-biden.html
Knowing their record, let's look at what they say they want to do with the savings. Out of five things they put out, three are health care cuts, and one of them is very obviously designed to bring for-profit vendors into the system.
In conclusion, the people running the state government are bad people who objectively do not care if people get sick and die.
